Good to know

Other Important Information

Please familiarize yourself with the following points to ensure the best possible experience for yourself and the other participants.

  • If, for any reason, you need to leave the meditation at any point, you will not be able to re-enter the room. We understand that emergencies can happen, but we have to be considerate of the group.
  • Please use the restrooms during breaks and well before the meditation begins.
  • Please turn off your cell phone during all events.
  • Audio and video recordings are not permitted

If you need help or have any questions, our staff will be available to assist you during the event.

Prohibited Conduct

If you do not follow the rules of conduct listed here, your registration will be revoked—without a refund—and you will be barred from future events.

  1. You may not take any video, photo, or other media recordings of any kind during the events.
  2. You must not be under the influence of alcohol during the event.
  3. You must not intentionally disrupt the event by causing disturbances or endangering the safety of Dr. Joe or other participants.
  4. You may not hold private coaching sessions with other participants before, during, or after the event.
  5. You may not use any licensed or copyrighted images, audio recordings, or video recordings of the events or products without written permission. Please note that doing so is illegal and may result in legal action under copyright law.
  6. You must not be under the influence of mind-altering drugs or ask for or share these substances with other participants. Please note that this rule applies for 30 days prior to the start of the event and remains in effect for the entire duration of the retreat.
Do I have an assigned seat?
Free seating within your assigned category—enjoy your preferred seat!

Depending on the section, your ticket allows you to choose a seat of your choice. However, it’s important to note that this seat isn’t permanently reserved for you. The principle here is “free seating—first come, first served.” To ensure you get your preferred seat, we therefore recommend returning to your seat in a timely manner.

Am I allowed to leave the premises?

During the retreat and the breaks, it’s no problem at all to leave the grounds, whether to have a meal or take a short break. You can leave the grounds whenever you like and return later without any trouble.

Important! If you need to leave the meditation at any time for any reason, you will not be able to re-enter the room. We understand that emergencies can happen, but we have to be considerate of the group.

The wristband you receive at admission on the first day gets you back into the hall at any time.

Our recommendation: If you’d like to get some fresh air during the break, we recommend the Merian Gardens, located right behind the St. Jakobshalle: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZPYMZb6Dxv6HvdWM6

What if I have questions at the event?

If you have any questions during the event, please stop by our information booth in the foyer. We’ll be happy to help you there.

Lost and Found

If you lose something during the event, you can come see us at the information booth.

Everything handed in is collected there.

After the event, you can pick up your lost items at the St. Jakobshalle.

Do you have any tips on what else to do in Basel before or after the event?

Make the Most of It—Your Stay in Basel and the Region

Come a few days early. Stay a little longer. Basel and the surrounding region will reward you for every hour you spend there.

🧠 A City of Great Thinkers

It is no coincidence that a retreat like this is taking place in Basel. For centuries, this city has attracted people who look deeper, who push the boundaries of thought, and who seek to understand the human being in his or her entirety:

  • Friedrich Nietzsche – Taught at the University of Basel from 1869 to 1879, where he underwent a transformation into a radical thinker who questioned traditional values down to their very roots
  • Carl Gustav Jung —the founder of analytical psychology—studied medicine in Basel and spent his entire life exploring the depths of the human unconscious.
  • Karl Jaspers —an existential philosopher and a bridge-builder between psychiatry and philosophy—taught at the University of Basel beginning in 1948 and lived there until his death
  • Erasmus of Rotterdam —The great Renaissance humanist spent his most productive years in Basel; his grave can still be found today in Basel Cathedral
  • Paracelsus —a 16th-century physician, mystic, and alchemist—taught at the University of Basel and viewed the body, mind, and cosmos as an inseparable unity. This perspective is remarkably close to the core idea of this retreat.
  • Rudolf Steiner – Founded the Goetheanum right next door in Dornach, the world center of anthroposophy and a symbol of the connection between spirituality, science, and the development of consciousness

That spirit can still be felt today—in the alleys, in the museums, and along the banks of the Rhine.

🏛️ Discover Basel – The Top Highlights

  • Basel Minster —the city’s landmark: red sandstone, Gothic towers, the tomb of Erasmus of Rotterdam, and a breathtaking view of the Rhine from the Pfalz Terrace
  • Town Hall on the Market Square – This bright red, late-Gothic building from the early 16th century is the heart of the Old Town and the seat of the government and parliament of the canton of Basel-Stadt
  • Mittlere Brücke —Basel’s oldest crossing over the Rhine connects Großbasel and Kleinbasel and is one of the city’s most beautiful vantage points
  • Tinguely Fountain on Theaterplatz —Jean Tinguely’s kinetic water sculptures dance and spout water where the stage of the old municipal theater once stood. A must-see, about a ten-minute walk from the center of the Old Town
  • Kunstmuseum Basel – One of Europe’s most important art museums, featuring works by Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and Warhol
  • Fondation Beyeler – A world-class private museum in Riehen featuring impressive works of modern art in a building designed by Renzo Piano
  • Tinguely Museum – Dedicated to the Basel artist Jean Tinguely; kinetic sculptures, humor, and flashes of inspiration all in one
  • Spalenberg & Spalentor – A medieval city gate and bustling shopping street, one of the most beautiful in the entire Old Town
  • Experience the Rhine —stroll along both banks. On warm days, the people of Basel float down the river with a Wickelfisch, the waterproof bag that keeps their clothes dry while they swim
  • Kleinbasel – The creative, lively side of the Rhine with bars, bistros, and street art, perfect for a relaxing evening

🌿 Day Trips – Where Three Countries Meet

  • Goetheanum Dornach (10 km / 20 min.) – Rudolf Steiner’s spiritual “total work of art,” designated a cultural asset of national significance since 1993; a place of quiet power that perfectly captures the spirit of this event
  • Augusta Raurica (15 km / 20 min.) – The best-preserved Roman theater north of the Alps, along with a Roman house and a museum. History you can experience firsthand
  • Colmar & Alsace (about 1 hour by train, with a transfer in Mulhouse) – A fairytale-like half-timbered town, wine tasting, tarte flambée, picturesque canal-side streets. A half-day that leaves a lasting impression
  • Black Forest (southern edge about 45 minutes away, Titisee about 1.5 hours away) – Dense forests, absolute silence, ideal for anyone looking to recharge between event days; day trips start right from Basel
